Wilderness fishing at its finest. Brookies are feeding on emergers in the morning hours. Small attractor dries work all day in slower-moving pools. Late-season steelhead still present in the lower reaches near Lake Superior. The road to the access points is seasonal — check MDNR road conditions before departing.

River History & Character
The Two-Hearted River runs through some of the most remote wilderness in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, draining into Lake Superior near the small town of Paradise. The river was immortalized by Ernest Hemingway, who set his most celebrated fishing story here. In reality, he fished the nearby Fox more frequently, but "Two-Hearted" carried the poetry his story required. The river flows through a dramatic landscape of jack pine barrens and boreal forest, largely unchanged from Hemingway's era. The lower river is designated a Natural River under Michigan law.
